EC-MOAN Web Howto PDF Print

The EC-MOAN web page is built on Joomla -- a content management system. The page is organized into the public and the private zone.

Public Zone

Public zone is accessible for reading to all internet users. It has the following structure:

  • Home -- the home page of the project with menu and the login form
  • Objectives -- brief information about the project
  • News -- project news ordered by date of their publishing
  • Events -- information regarding upcoming and passed events
  • Publications -- list of publications supported by the project
  • Tools and Models -- information about tools and models developed during the project
  • Partners and Persons -- list of key project partners and members
  • External Links -- links to related information
  • Search -- fulltext search in the EC-MOAN web

Members of the project can manipulate all the information with the exception of the Home page, Partners and Persons page, and the Objectives page.

Private Zone

Private zone of the EC-MOAN web allows all project members to manage the internal project documents, as well as to manipulate the public web content. It is accessible by filling the login form at the bottom left part of the EC-MOAN Home page. After loging into the EC-MOAN page, a separate user menu appears in the bottom left part of the screen.

How to submit new content

By clicking on any "Submit" menu item you can add a new content to the particular part of the public web. Please, do not forget to do the following two things:

  1. Select the appropriate category for the new item.
  2. At the bottom of the page make the item "published" by changing its "State" under the "Publishing" tab, otherwise it won't be displayed in the EC-MOAN web page.

Please follow the suggested formating of the information presented on the web.

How to edit already published content

A useful feature is that if you are logged in, an icon of a pencil appears around title of each web content. By clicking on it you can directly edit the respective content.

The "News Items", "Event Items", "Publication Items", "Tools & Models Items", and "External Links Items" Menus allows you to manipulate the content items published on the website by any of the project members. You can both edit the existing items as well as add new items. Please follow the guidelines stated above.

How to manipulate the documents

When you click on the Document Manager menu item the document manager interface will appear. Here you can manage the internal project documents as usual on any document server.

How to manipulate your user account

By clicking on the "Your Details" menu item you can edit your user profile. Especially, you can change your password.

Adding an abstract

  1. Go to www.ec-moan.org
  2. log in, using the bottom left menu
  3. from the user menu select: Submit to Abstracts
  4. in the title field add: Auhtor: Title
  5. in the category drop down select the meeting.
  6. in the intro text field add: your abstract
  7. Save the result
  8. Push the logout button

Adding slides to an abstract:

Part A: uploading the slides

  1. Go to www.ec-moan.org
  2. log in, using the bottom left menu
  3. from the user menu select Document Manager.
  4. navigate to Slides then xxx Meeting
  5. Hit the submit file button
  6. follow the menu
**** Choose a nice long file name to upload:
The system does not allow uploading the same file twice!

Part B: creating the link

  1. go to abstracts/xxx meeting
  2. hit the edit button
  3. add the link the the uploaded file
The last button (DOCman link) should give
you a list of files to choose from, but often
doesn't work. Alternative is
  1. copy the link location from the Document Manager.
  2. edit the abstract
  3. select some text
  4. hit create link (7th item on 2nd row looks like chain link)
  5. confirm the link creation
  6. Save the page
**** Do not forget the save or cancel whenever you edit a page:
Opening a page in the editor creates a lock on that page.
No one but the user creating the lock can remove it, not
even the admins.
